About Bob Mueller and Mueller Winery...

Bob received his bachelors degree while attending the University of California at Santa Cruz and upon completion of his studies there was hired by Paul Masson Champagne Cellars in Saratoga. Bob then enrolled at the University of California at Davis where he earned his masters degree in Food Science in 1976.

Following his graduation from Davis in 1976, Bob worked at several wineries in California, including Foppiano in Healdsburg.

In 1981 Bob was hired as the Director of Winemaking for Souverain Winery in Geyserville. As well as producing literally hundreds of award winning wines for Souverain he also directed their large custom crush operation.

In 1984 Bob established his own wine consulting business. He was hired by Vinwood Cellars, Geyserville, to design and establish what quickly became one of the largest custom crush facilities in Napa and Sonoma Counties, strictly devoted to custom crush.

In 1991 Robert Mueller Cellars was established in Healdsburg. Ten years later a new winery was built in Windsor, California and the move was made in February, 2001. The first production under the Mueller Brand was a 1991 Russian River Chardonnay (315 cases) , very limited but extremely well received. Bob made his pinot noir debut with the 1994 Mueller Pinot Noir, Russian River Valley, Emily’s Cuvée. With a production of only 266 cases it was sold out immediately and left his customers waiting impatiently for the release of his next vintage. The total Mueller production has gradually increased to approximately 3,500 cases.

The winery is operated by Robert and his wife Lori. Bob performs all of the cellar and production duties with the assistance of one person and part-time help for crushing and bottling. Lori Mueller is responsible for the sales, accounting and compliance work for the winery. Mueller wines are available retail through the winery and through distributors in California and 11 additional states as well as Japan.
